Animal Control
You may call any time to report animal problems at 970-731-2160. All animals picked up by Archuleta County Deputies are taken to the Humane Society of Pagosa Springs, located at 465 Cloman Boulevard, Pagosa Springs.
Duties
- Investigates, prevents, and stops animal neglect and cruelty
- Educates the public about animal welfare
- Enforces animal-related laws by educating pet owners, issuing citations and, if necessary, impounding animals
- Protects the public from dangerous animals
- Quarantines animals that have bitten or attacked other animals or people
- Rescues animals that are in danger, sick, or injured
- Assists other law enforcement agencies

- Stray animals that are injured, sick, or in danger
- Animal attacks to other animals or people
- Animal bites

Are rabies vaccinations required for dogs and cats in Archuleta County?
Rabies vaccinations are only required for your dogs. It is important that you keep the proof of the rabies vaccination in a safe and accessible location in the event that you are required to show it to an officer.
Is there a leash law in Archuleta County?
The leash law only applies to dogs that do not respond to voice commands.
Must I license my dog?
Archuleta County does not require you to license any of your pets.
