Detective Division
The responsibility of the Investigative Unit is to coordinate and conduct follow-up investigations of reported felony and misdemeanor offenses that occur within the unincorporated areas of Archuleta County.
Detectives are tasked with timely and thorough criminal investigations that are conducted in an unbiased and objective manner. They gather facts that conclude if, in fact, a crime has occurred, and in some cases if a crime has not occurred.
Inter-agency Cooperation
Detectives work closely with the Town of Pagosa Springs Police Department, Department of Human Services, Child Protective Services, Probation, Parole, the District Attorney’s Office, federal agencies, the U.S. Attorney, and the District and County Courts.
In partnership with the Town of Pagosa Springs Police Department, we staff an additional detective whose sole responsibility is that of enforcing narcotics related crimes within the county and town. This detective works closely with each agency, as well as that of other surrounding agencies including federal narcotics enforcement officers.
Sheriff LeRoux is committed to making this county a safer place to live. He believes that the people he was elected to protect and serve will greatly benefit from the service provided by the Investigative Unit. There are currently two detectives that work for the Sheriff’s Office.

Can I call Investigations to speak with a detective about any leads I may have on a case?
If you have any information pertaining to an incident or an existing investigation you must first contact Dispatch at (970) 731-2160 to request to speak with a deputy. The deputy will make the determination if that information will need to be reviewed by a detective.
How do I recover / collect my property once it has been entered into evidence?
Investigations has a part-time property technician who releases the property. You must have a release from the District Attorney’s Office or proof of ownership before the property will be released.
