VIN Inspections

If your vehicle was purchased out of Colorado, or if your vehicle has an out-of-state title, you will be required to obtain a VIN verification in order to register your vehicle in the State of Colorado.  The Sheriff’s Office provides Vehicle Verification Services for the public on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. This service costs $20.00 per vehicle or trailer. A Deputy County Clerk or Deputy will verify the VIN number. 

The Sheriff’s Office will also provide an off-site VIN inspection when a vehicle has no license plates or for special circumstances when the vehicle/trailer cannot be brought to the Sheriff’s Office.  You will need to schedule this service by calling 970-264-8430. 

PLEASE NOTE: The Sheriff’s Office is not able to do VIN inspections for Trailers or Motor Homes at the office.  Please call the Sheriff’s Office at 970-264-8430 to set up an off-site VIN inspection or call the Clerk’s Office at  970-264-8350 to conduct the VIN Inspection.

By appointment only, the Sheriff’s Office can perform Certified VIN inspections for out-of-state salvage titles, appointments can be requested by contacting the Sheriff’s Office at 970-264-8430. The cost for a Certified VIN inspection is $50.00 per vehicle or trailer.
